What is Shea Butter Nilotica or East African Shea butter?
East African Shea Butter is a wonderful light, velvety smooth shea butter produced in Northern Uganda and comes from the fruit Vitellaria Nilotica - a sub species of the Karite tree which grows across Uganda and Southern Sudan. This rare and highly sought after shea butter is perfect for those who find application of regular West African Shea butter too heavy for their sensitive or delicate skin types.
East African Shea Butter has a very pleasant mild aroma. It is also high in vitamins A, E & F and is similar to West African Shea in that it is high in unsaponifiables, antioxidants and cinnamic acid - a natural sunscreen.
East African Shea is also prized for its high olein (moisturizing content) and is less "waxy" than West African Shea. Nilotica shea butter spreads easily, is gentle, non clogging and readily absorbs into the skin and hair increasing elasticity and softness. It is perfect for use around the eyes, facial skin care, mature dry skin, irritated skin, eczema, dry scalp and delicate baby skin.
Our Premium Shea Butter Nilotica proudly meets international IMO certified organic standards and is sourced from a Women's Cooperative in Northern Uganda.
